Project Summary –
Start Date – 2012
End Date – 2017
Client: Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd
Location: 150 km north of Jiddah, Saudi Arabia
Petro Rabigh is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd. In 2012, Petrofac was awarded two engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the Phase II petrochemical expansion project at their refinery, 150 km north of Jeddah.
The expansion of the existing 3,000-acre facility will enable Petro Rabigh to start producing a new range of high value petreochecmical products within Saudi Arabia.
The contracts cover a full range of common utilities along with two sizeable tank farms, comprising 47 tanks and five spheres. They are some of the first major awards made by Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical under their In-Kingdom EPC programme.
As with so many Petrofac projects, the ability to deliver locally is an important factor and all of the work has been led from our Al-Khobar office.
Building on the quality of our work, in 2015 we were awarded a significant increase to the scope of the original contracts, including the EPC requirements for two additional tanks, two additional LPG spheres, and all the associated utilities.
